Storage Cafe’s Take: “…Houston, TX, is fifth on the list of cities with the highest influx of renters in 2020, with almost 70% coming from in-state locations. Houston attracts urban dwellers and former suburban residents in almost equal proportions: 54% compared to 46%. The originating cities for renters relocating to Houston are the nearby Katy, Spring, and Sugar Land, but also Austin and San Antonio. Unemployment in Houston dropped by almost half between April 2020 and the end of last year, from over 14% in April 2020 to under 8% in December, signaling a recovery of the local economy that’s bound to keep attracting out-of-towners. The city also offers spacious apartments, with Houston taking the 11th spot nationally for average apartment size – roughly 880 square feet…”
